چکیده
The actin cytoskeleton is crucial for maintaining the morphology of many cells and for dynamic processes, such as cell migration. Thus, there is much interest in the internal and external cues that control actin dynamics. Small GTPases, such as Rac and Cdc42 (and the factors that regulate them), orchestrate the remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton by modulating the activity of proteins that directly control actin polymerization and organization. This Select explores recent studies that address how actin polymerization is regulated in specific cell types and its role in diverse processes from programmed cell death to transcription.

Cytotoxicity effect of secondary metabolites of Streptomyces koyangensis and Streptomyces tunisiensis isolated from saline soils of Garmsar City on human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7, IBRC C10082)
Background: Streptomyces is one of the most important prokaryotic microorganisms, and their secondary metabolites have high antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties. Three-quarters of the antibiotics known to be produced by these bacteria. As a result, finding new effective compounds from these microorganisms can be a way to treat cancer. The aim of this study was to isolate and screen halophilic...

Proteins can carry out their functions in more than one cellular compartment. Often a switch in protein function coincides with movement from one organelle to another, but sometimes even a small change in localization within an organelle has marked downstream effects. This issue’s Cell Biology Select explores the regulation of proteins that lead a double life depending on their location in the ...

Although genomic rearrangements can have detrimental consequences, they are intentionally triggered in certain contexts such as nuclear maturation and immune evasion in protozoa, adaptation to environmental stress in bacteria, and immune system development in vertebrates. This Molecular Biology Select describes recent advances in the understanding of genomic rearrangements that benefit an organ...
متن کاملProduction and functional characterization of human insulin-like growth factor 1
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a polypeptide hormone produced mainly by the liver in response to the endocrine growth hormone (GH) stimulus. This protein is involved in a wide range of cellular functions, including cellular differentiation, transformation, apoptosis suppression, migration and cell-cycle progression and other metabolic processes. In the current study, human heart cDNA w...

This issue’s Molecular Biology Select highlights recent studies that further the understanding of how chromatin structure is regulated and maintained in a variety of different biological contexts to ensure the precise regulation of gene expression. Two of the studies report noncoding RNAs, which are cofactors that direct proteins to modulate chromatin structure. The other three studies delve in...
